Can anyone help me work out how to enable my comments? They’re up for the moment.
I finally worked out why my comments are disabled. (explained below)
The ‘Happiness Engineers’ are on holiday, so I’ve disabled the part of the new theme which had deactivated the comment section.
If anyone knows the answer to my question, you can comment — for the time being. 🙂
(sent to the help desk)
I wanted to separate my existing posts into a visual template which visitors could click to be taken to that page. Here’s what I did:
Customize –> Theme –> Team Template Category and Portfolio Template Category –> selected the appropriate categories from the drop down menu.
Once I did that the right sidebar was disabled along with the comments.
I’ve gone into the dashboard down each and every selection on the left to make sure that “show comments” is checked. I’ve gone into the quick edit menu on each post to confirm it’s checked. And of course the screen options at the top of the post’s page. Even though everything is checked, I can get no comments.
Questions:
1) Is there a workaround? I read that items in Portfolio have comments disabled.
2) Is there some CSS I can add (purchase required) to put the comments back into that posts?
3) If there’s nothing I can do to bring comments back to page once I put them into the template, then is there another option to lay the Featured Image out as a clickable link to the original page?
Thank you,
Steven
Hi: I admire all the work you are doing to get this site organized the way you like. The folks at WordPress are extremely helpful, so be patient and I am sure they will get back to you re: the problem you are having with your comments….
In answer to your last question, I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is a way to set your featured image to click back to your original page. There is a push from some of us to have WordPress add a feature that would allow Gallery Photos to link back to the original page. Currently, you cannot. Here is a link to the forum topic on that:
http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/photo-gallery-settings-custom-links-for-individual-photos?replies=5#post-1676023
I have been using the workaround suggested in the above for some of my photos and for now it is fine. You can see it in action on this page:

Here is the link on how to set up a photo gallery in WordPress and some of the options:

Another option would be to set up a custom archive page or two using shortcode. The archives on my site, http://www.gathering-flavors.com , are set up using shortcode. Here’s how to do that:

Keep up the good work.
I hope this helps.

Oh, wow, it really does. Thank you.
The theme I chose does have a template which allows you the featured photo to be a link, but it disables the comments when you do. I’ve been thinking I can use it as an archive, as you suggested.
Thanks for your help. 🙂

I don’t know how to fix the problem, but WordPress Support aka Happiness Engineers are so helpful. It took a couple of weeks to fix my issue, but they were so patient with me until it was done 😀
Good luck!

Thanks. I’ve heard god things about them.
BTW, there’s a festival and fireworks show in Sakuragicho tonight. It’s less crowded around Landmark tower, fyi. Akarenga has some set up (I was there yesterday evening, didn’t see the finished product).
It’d be less crowded than anything in Tokyo. 🙂

You should post your questions on the help forum. I’ve always found the voluteers on there to be very helpful, and quite fast in answering my questions or solving my problems. Even when I need to get CSS to customize my site. Someone always helps me in a very short time frame.

Hoping you get it squared away quickly. The Japanese guy thing is scary!
I’m always a little afraid I’ll screw up my set-up when I try to change anything on the blog…so lately my mantra is “if ain’t broke don’t fix it!” 🙂

The creature with the face? Ah, on the sidebar. (lol)
That’s the Japanese god Inari, the Fox. It’s a detail from a play I saw. That should be a link to all my photos, but it’s not working now. The one avow it should link to my food posts, but using it turns off the comments.
Thanks for your support. 🙂

Well, I can engage comments by disengaging the theme. When the theme’s templates are used the comments disappear.

I bet you remember that. HAHA! Good ole American humor!!! 🙂
